ITM HAILS PWC AS INNOVATORS
Professional Services Company is First to Achieve ICARUS Accreditation
The Institute of Travel & Meetings UK & Ireland (ITM) announced today that it has issued its first Bronze ICARUS accreditation to PricewaterhouseCoopers for implementing a robust CO2 reduction process across their travel and meetings programme.
The accreditation, established in 2007, is the second stage in the overall Project ICARUS Accreditation programme and requires evidence of set targets and processes in line with the ICARUS pledge to reduce emissions by 60% by 2050 from travel and meetings.
The assessment is made by the ICARUS Advisory Group - the project team made up of 11 travel buyers, consultants and academics which originally formed ICARUS in 2006. Speaking on behalf of ITM, the founders of Project ICARUS, Paul Tilstone, Chief Executive, cited the following remarks in the overall assessment of PwC's submission, " PwC demonstrated sound methodology and effective communication showing their commitment to the overall Project. It is evidently a well thought out and defined strategy aligned to wider company objectives."
The accreditation assessors stated in particular that "PwC has done pioneering work in the field of business travel reduction and have come up with highly creative ways of getting engagement. Their work deserves to be promoted and celebrated to inspire others."
Tilstone added, "This is indeed great news and I am personally delighted that PwC are the first to receive accreditation. Whilst other companies have certainly been undertaking reduction strategies, PwC have consistently championed the environment in the business travel sector and have always been open and honest about their challenges. This has undoubtedly inspired others to act."
The accreditation lasts 2 years after which the organisation must demonstrate emission reduction success and subsequently re-apply or make a submission for increased accreditation at the next silver level.
