ITM FOCUSES ON "THE" QUESTION ON INDUSTRY'S MIND

Are The Economy & Environment at odds?

The Institute of Travel & Meetings UK & Ireland (ITM) has altered the final session of its January 15th Focus Forum, entitled "ECO-nomics", to consider the synergies between cost reduction and emission reduction in light of the worsening economic situation. The session will start with thought provoking presentations by Mark Avery, Head of Business Services from PwC and past ITM Chairman, and Lynn Basford from the Centre for Transport Psychology. The session change builds on an already dynamic line up of speakers from companies such as BA, the Aviation Environment Federation, Cranfield University, OGC and WWF - UK. Each of the participant companies is a Project ICARUS contributor.

"This event is a must attend for any company looking at reducing emissions from travel & meeting programmes and trying to best understand how to balance that with cost reduction and business performance." , says Paul Tilstone, Chief Executive of ITM. "Clever companies are those that see the two are not at odds and our event will be the place to meet with other travel buyers, suppliers, academics and consultants to discuss what the best path is to take advantage of these economically difficult times and to shine as innovators of cost and emission reduction in tandem."

Tilstone, who recently received an industry award for Outstanding Contribution to the Environment by an Individual will act as moderator for the day, with key expert speakers addressing issues such as the impact of aviation's inclusion in the Emissions Trading Scheme, the barriers to behavioural change and the application of technology to different meeting types. The association is also creating output in the form of a paper on ECO-nomics (the approach to travel management through a combination of cost and emissions reduction) to be provided to all attending delegates.
